Jesse W. Hodsdon, Jr. &
Mary Rita Hodsdon

by Rita Hodsdon

Jesse retired from the military in 1974, and again from Supreme Court of Florida in 1991. We have 3 children:

Our first bikes were motor scooters; a Lambretta in North Africa in 1961 to 1963 and a Vespa in LA in 1963. We didn't purchase any other bikes until 1971 due to military travels, although I rode a couple of Hondas in Vietnam in 1970 and 1971. We purchased several used bikes during 1971 to 1974 while in MA;. a Honda 90 trail/dirt bike, a 175 Bridgestone, which our oldest daughter rode, a 350 Yamaha ridden by our son, a CB 350 Honda and a new BMW 600/5.

When we moved to Tallahassee in 1974 we brought the BMW with us and purchased a Honda 90 trail bike, which Rita rode, and a Honda 125, which our youngest daughter rode. We sold the BMW and later purchased a 185 Twin Star, then a Honda 500 Shadow, upgraded it to a Honda 1100 Shadow and also a Harley Davidson Low Rider. We traded the Shadow in for a 1996 BMW R1100RT, and the Low Rider for a 2001 Harley Davidson ultra Classic.

We have traveled from here to Maine, to California and from Mexico to Canada and everywhere in between, but we travel in our small motor home and trailer the bike. We stop early most days and tour the area on the bike. Our best rides have been in El Paso, TX area and Flagstaff, AZ. We have ridden roads as curvy as Deal's Gap and at elevations up to 6,000 feet. We enjoy the Smoky Mountains and the Blue Ridge Parkway. Locally we like to ride the back roads of south GA.

We ride because we like to be out in the open, especially on secondary roads where we can enjoy the scenery and the scents both good and bad. We like being members of Chapter FL1-A2 because of the friends we have made through frequent gatherings for rides and meetings. However, we don't get to many of the rides anymore because of conflicting activities. We square dance and often ride with our daughter and her friends on weekends.
